The Headmaster's Ritual 3:30 minutes 2002

A mini-essay on male role models, on education, and right-wing gay prototypes. Shot with a handheld Super 8 black and white camera, a writer re-visiting the school from his teen years itemizes the schoolyard. This is accompanied by walking music, and by a monologue about past imperfect headmasters, about aestheticism and class politics, and about a few notoriously right-wing gay men. Originally made for Splice This 2002's Remedy program of short Super 8 films. Is replacing Alfred Hitchcock with Oscar Wilde a remedy? Well, not necessarily.
